Our History

Redeemer Community Church was established in June of 2011 as the results of a merge between Community Bible Church and Redeemer Fellowship. The story of the how these two congregations came together is one of God's gracious providence. Community Bible began in 1955 in the Keithville community. Through the years God used this congregation as a faithful gospel witness. However, the congregation met decline through the years and was enduring a prolonged difficult season. They had been without a pastor for about two years and were praying for a young, faithful pastor to help lead their aging flock and build toward the future. Redeemer Fellowship was established in December of 2008 in the home of pastor, Billy C. Sutton, Jr. The church had developed to the point of looking for a permanent place to meet. It seemed that finding an affordable location was impossible. This new congregation was praying for a place to meet to call their own.

God answers prayers! While the congregations were praying, a member from Redeemer Fellowship and the daughter of a Community Bible member met one another at work. Through normal conversation, the needs of each church were discussed and were eventually shared to others. As a result, four members from Community Bible visited a service of Redeemer Fellowship to hear Billy preach. They appreciated the exposition of God's Word and asked Billy to be a visiting preacher. Billy accepted the invitation and preached at Community Bible in October of 2010 with his family attending. Once again, the preaching of God's Word was enjoyed. In response, Billy was asked to preach again two weeks later, which he did. This time asking the covenant members of Redeemer Fellowship to attend, as well. Both congregations enjoyed the day. Without much delay, the board leaders of Community Bible asked Redeemer Fellowship to join them for Sunday morning services and offered them full use of the facilities. Both congregations agreed to meet in this arrangement for six months while praying about merging.

Though Community Bible's average age was well above seventy and Redeemer Fellowship's was in the low twenties, God brought them together for the gospel. In June of 2011 each congregation voted independently to form a new congregation. The new congregation would call itself Redeemer Community Church and chose Billy C. Sutton, Jr. to be the pastor. It was wonderful to see God answer each congregation prayers above and beyond what was asked. Community Bible was asking for a pastor, God answered with a pastor and a congregation. Redeemer Fellowship was praying for a location to purchase, God answered with a building for free and a group of seasoned believers. God was especially gracious in his dealings in the establishment of this church.
